Office of Research and Graduate Studies
The mission of the Office of Research and Graduate Studies (RGS) is "To facilitate innovation, creative activity, discovery, and the application and dissemination of knowledge." To accomplish that mission, RGS advocates for research and graduate education, oversees graduate programs and the graduate student application process, implements research integrity requirements, and, through the KU Center for Research (KUCR), manages the administration of research grants and contracts. RGS also has oversight of activities related to technology commercialization and business and industry outreach.
Nine University Research Centers and Institutes on KU's Lawrence Campus relate to RGS, along with three Affiliated Centers, two Core Service Labs, and the Kansas Biological Survey and Kansas Geological Survey.
KU Center for Research, Inc.
The KU Center for Research, Inc. (KUCR) is a not-for-profit research foundation that operates for the benefit of the university under the administrative jurisdiction of RGS. It was incorporated in 1962 to develop and administer sponsored programs in engineering and related interdisciplinary areas at KU. Effective July 1, 1997, KUCR's services expanded to encompass all sponsored programs conducted throughout the Lawrence campus.
KUCR is the entity responsible for submitting all proposals for external support of research, instructional and service projects. In addition, KUCR helps research investigators by negotiating contracts, providing proposal and post-award services, administering compliance oversight, managing and constructing research facilities, and handling financial services, including investment of corporation resources.
